Introducing the facilitators:-
Beth Johnson: I have been attending the Kalamunda Community Learning Centre in Drawing and Watercolour classes for over 23 years. For the last five years, I have been facilitating the Watercolour Painting Workshop on Monday afternoons, sharing the role with Averil Baker for the last two years.
My painting style is realistic and detailed.
Coming from a Primary School teaching background, I encourage members to create their unique style of painting, building on their strengths and interests.
Averil has a contrasting technique, but together we facilitate a friendly, adventurous and encouraging workshop.

Averil Baker: I also have been a member of the learning centre, as a past tutor and a participant in various courses for many years. Watercolour painting is my first love and I have enjoyed the last four years as a co-facilitator for this group.

One thing our group has in common is that we love to travel. It provides us with a great deal of inspiration for our passion – watercolour painting. There are many lovely moments each time we meet. We can travel vicariously as we talk and swap stories about the stunning scenery being transferred to paper. Places as far away as Italy, Holland, New Zealand and Cornwall (UK) have us reminiscing as we watch them reappear in our artwork.
The love of Australian landscapes, and favourite holiday places at home, also provide much inspiration. We are often kept up to date with our travelling artists by email so we can share in their experiences.
Our two talented tutors, Averil and Beth, are always on hand to offer advice and to pass on their suggestions and knowledge.

Our popular Water Colour Painting class started today for 2026, with numerous new members and “old” ones returning. It does seem to have been a long time since our last class in 2025 and it was great to be back in our beautiful ‘studio’ overlooking the Jorgie Park trees.
It is an eclectic class of happy, enthusiastic, social artists, ably encouraged by our attentive tutors, Averil and Beth. We are fortunate to have them bringing their artistic skills to class, to help us make the most of our skills, whatever our level of experience/competence may be. We are very grateful to them both.
We are lucky to have such a lovely, happy group and will hopefully produce many paintings worthy of the Open Day display this year.
