Description: This workshop is for those who are experienced in the art of oil painting and would like to join others as they share their passion, experience and expertise under the guidance of the tutor. Members can also enrol in the afternoon session for a whole-day workshop. Beginners are also welcome and they will be assisted with their painting projects, but formal lessons are not given.

Introducing the tutor, Wendy Salter: Wendy has drawn and painted since she was a little girl. During her working life she was employed Gibney’s who were commercial printers. She began her journey as a fully- fledged artist and designer at James St Technical School (later TAFE) where she completed a Diploma in Graphic Design. While there she was taught by some of WA’s most notable artists including Guy Grey-Smith, Tom Higgins, Arthur Cartwright and John Fawcett. She went on to study drawing and painting at Forrestfield TAFE with well-known hills artist Cedric Baxter as one of her teachers there.
Later Wendy began teaching herself at Kalamunda TAFE night school classes which used to run at Kalamunda SHS. She has also run art classes from her own studio.

There is always a gentle and positive buzz in the Oil Painting class with valued tutor, Wendy Salter. This term, new faces and new directions in art being explored. It takes bravery and courage to step outside one’s comfort zone and try a new genre of artistic expression in an art class. That is exactly what Christopher du Boulay has done. He has stepped away from the predictability of landscape painting and launched into portrait painting, where he is excelling.

The Friday Oil Painting Group is very pleased to have Wendy Slater guiding them in the creation of their artworks. Each member chooses their own subject and style of painting and Wendy assists them with constructive advice and assistance. This covers a range of art genres from portraits to landscapes and still life.
As a mentor and tutor Wendy glides seamlessly between the different projects each of her KCLC students are tackling-always positive and helpful, demonstrating techniques when needed and warmly giving advice and sharing tips and painting skills. Both new and returning students appreciate this generosity of tutoring style.
