In Sickness and in Health: How the Body Works – Semester 2

Description: This course presents information about the structure (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the human body.  Each week will focus on one part or system of the body e.g., week 1 – the pulmonary system (lungs), week 2 – the cardiovascular system (heart and vessels) etc.  For each system, as well as describing what is normal, a few common abnormalities will also be discussed, e.g., week 1 Asthma, Emphysema, Pneumonia. (This is a repeat of the course offered in semester 1).

Introducing the tutor, Dr Susan Caddy MBBS (WA) Graduate of UWA: After internship and residency at Fremantle Hospital entered the Family Medicine Programme (forerunner of the RACGP) and spent time as a GP in Kalgoorlie. Most recently I have spent 15 years in the medical faculty of Notre Dame University with 1st and 2nd year medical students.

    We are a reasonable sized group who all want to learn about how our body works and the professionally crafted presentations are teaching us exactly that. We started with the pulmonary, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems and are now moving on to other systems of the body. At the Learning Centre, we are fortunate to have Dr. Susan Caddy generously giving her time to educate us.
