What’s not to love about a Book Club? There’s a certain joy that comes from sharing ideas, observations and differences of opinion in response to reading our novels. Under the leadership of Bernice Sparks, our tutor, there’s always plenty of lively discussion and debate. It stems from bringing together diverse group individuals with lots of life experience and interesting perspectives.

Over refreshments and lovely suppers we talk enthusiastically about our latest read. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I always leave with more to think about than when I arrived, such is the nature of good stories. It’s a challenge sometimes, reading outside of what I might choose for myself, but that’s where so much of the rich conversations we have emerge. We’ve entered into the world of characters, places and people to travel to different times, cultures and ideological settings, reminding us of the depth of human experience good stories invite us to consider.

Spending every third Tuesday evening talking about books is great fun and a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a few hours with new friends. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to what’s in store for us to read as the year progresses.
