1 review for Art History – Semester 2

The Art History Course is a committed group, this term focusing on Greek and Roman Art, exploring these periods of artistic practice through the paradigm of the wider social, urban and political context of their time. Tutor and artist Tony Fowler works closely with class members to bring the art of each period covered to life.
Students are provided with pre-reading materials as optional preparation and information in the class is conveyed both through verbal and visual presentations including with videos, photographs and tabled texts. Paintings, frescoes, sculpture, ceramics and architecture are all part of this mix.
Students with a particular interest in an aspect of the artistic developments or historical periods covered, are invited to bring to the class objects, texts and photographs from their travels. Some may choose to give a short presentation on an interest area. Others opt to participate in discussion around the table or to be more of a listener. Since its inception, the course has covered a wide spectrum of art history from modern to renaissance art and art from all quarters of the globe.
Each semester has a different focus. During the semester break several of the group meet for coffee to maintain contact and continuity.
    All are welcome.
    Jenny (semester 1 2026)
