Description

Requirements: A laptop would be great but not mandatory. Any device plugged into power must be tested and tagged.

Printing Costs: It’s not practical to do live printing for everyone during the class, so the program will be teaching-focused. For the printing of projects, the course will be structured as follows:

  • In the first two sessions, I will show participants what 3D printing can do and cover some basic information on setting up a printer at home. Members who enrol as ‘Casual’ will need to attend these first two sessions.
  • After getting an idea of how it works, class members can decide whether to purchase their own machine if they’re really keen. Alternatively, I can offer machine rental and print services. For example, once members know how to download models and handle the basic settings, they can email me their files, and I can bring the printed pieces in the following week. Our standard printing fee for individuals is $5/hr.

Introducing the tutor – Zhiwei Yu: Zhiwei (Zac) started 3D printing five years ago. He now runs a small 3D printing studio in Perth, selling creative prints at local markets and providing printing services for individuals/businesses.

This course covers the fundamentals of 3D printing, including how 3D printers work, basic machine setup, and simple print setting adjustments. The aim is to take you from zero to printing your first model. No technical or design background is required, though basic computer skills are helpful.
