Welcome...
A new semester begins. I hope you have all managed to enrol in your chosen course. The social & mental benefits are worth it. This edition has a welcome from the Executive Committee and given it is the KCLC 50th anniversary next year, there is a request for interested members to look at photos and name the subject (s) if possible. I wonder if my Mum is in any? She did silver jewellery making here in the 1990's after she retired.

Bronwyn gives a round up of this Semester's enrolments with a reminder to make sure you are part of a work group. Younger members, associated with the Centre, are in the forefront in this issue with Crèche Organiser's, Katherine's request for more volunteers and with Songs with Bubs featured in Class News. Containers for Change is once again asking for your donations.

Welcome Back
On behalf of the Executive Committee, welcome back to another exciting term at Kalamunda Community Learning Centre.
We hope you have enjoyed a relaxing break and are looking forward to reconnecting with friends, meeting new people, and embracing the many learning opportunities ahead.
We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated tutors and volunteers whose enthusiasm and commitment continue to create such a welcoming and inspiring environment for everyone.
We wish you all a rewarding, enjoyable and successful term and look forward to seeing you around the Centre.

Welcoming Our New Executive Committee Members

We are pleased to welcome several new members to the Executive Committee. We thank them for volunteering their time and look forward to the valuable contributions they will make to the Centre. Over the coming weeks we will introduce each of the new Executive Committee members in the newsletter, giving you the opportunity to get to know them and the experience they bring to KCLC.

Help Us Preserve KCLC’s History?

Do you recognise these faces? Could you help us tell the story of our Centre?

As we prepare for KCLC’s 50th anniversary in 2027, we are beginning the exciting task of sorting through boxes of photographs that capture nearly five decades of learning, friendship, and community.
|
Many of these photos are unlabelled, and we are hoping our long-term members can help identify the people, classes, tutors, and special events they remember.
We will be holding a Photo History Workshop where volunteers can come together to sort, organise and label these memories. No special skills are needed just a willingness to help and if you have been part of the Centre for many years, your memories will be invaluable.
Whether you have been a member, tutor, or volunteer, we would love your assistance. Every name identified and every story remembered helps preserve the rich history of the Kalamunda Community Learning Centre for future generations.
If you would like to be involved, please register your interest either via email to the attention of Angela, speak with our receptionists or a Coordinator. If you have a few hours to spare, we would love to hear from you.

Enrolment Week
This was our smoothest enrolment period ever! Yay!
|
Congratulations to all of you members who enrolled yourselves online for the first time. Well done! This certainly reduced the workload for those of us volunteering at the Centre and made your enrolment go through much more quickly.
|
|
This semester 58 new members are joining us, and I know everyone will make them very welcome.
|
Did you forget to enrol? Oops!
|
As classes are settling in and any enrolment issues resolved in the first two weeks of the semester, our policy is to not accept late enrolments during that time. We do understand though that sometimes life throws us a curve ball, so we will enrol returning members with extenuating circumstances as well as new members. In both cases a $10 administration fee applies. These enrolments will need to be processed in person, so please visit the reception desk.

From week three, we will accept late enrolments for courses that have vacancies, but full course fees are charged.
|
Some of our courses don’t commence until Term 4, so these are still open on the website for enrolment.
|
Refunds
We notice that some members paid for Community Membership even though they had paid for this in semester one. If this is you, and you would like a refund (via store credit) please send a message to [email protected].
|
If you find the course you enrolled in is not what you expected or your circumstances have changed and you can no longer attend, we will accept applications for a refund within the first two weeks of the course commencing or maybe a swap to another course. Applications for a refund can be submitted to reception or an email to the registrar (see address above). Unless there are extenuating circumstances, we do not offer refunds after the second week of the course.

Workgroups
Kalamunda Community Learning Centre is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. Our organisation is built on a unique model that relies on our members contributing their time and skills to help run the organisation, helping to keep our course costs low and community involvement high. If members do not register for a workgroup, someone else must take up the slack.
|
If you haven’t registered for your workgroup yet, please do so online, or at the reception desk. Please do not wait until we approach you as this causes more work for our team.
|
At this point, our biggest need is for more volunteers to assist with the Crèche Rosters and at our Open Day Cafe, which is being held on the 20th September.
This is a fun day; a fantastic way to see what others get up to in their courses and fulfil your workgroup obligation.

Remember the Personal Columns, way, way before internet dating?

WANTED
|
Lady of a certain age (me), wishes to hear from like-minded persons. with the aim of having an enjoyable time - while providing child-minding for young parents to allow them to attend classes at KCLC.
|
|
|
|
Must be free on two Wednesday or Thursday mornings in Term 4.
|
|
Make contact by signing up on either one of the Wednesday or Thursday creche workgroup lists.
|
|
|
|
|
Seriously, we do need some more members to sign up on the creche workgroup lists - especially Wednesday. Although you require a Working with Children Check card to be on duty in the crèche, there is time for you to get one before Term 4. It is not a difficult process and the Centre will refund your application fee of $11 once your card has arrived. There are application forms at the office.
|
We have mums and children enrolled and ready. All we need now are some more people to fill the remaining volunteer spots. (Many thanks to the marvellous members who have already put their names down and have pretty well filled the Thursday morning spots in Term 3).
|
I am not kidding about having an enjoyable time minding children in the crèche. The little ones (babies and toddlers) are a source of delight, and as we have a ratio of no more than two children per minder, there is opportunity for meaningful and rewarding one-to-one interaction. The crèche is wonderfully equipped and neither you, nor the children, will get bored!
|
We do not change nappies – parents are called back to the crèche to attend to such matters.
|
So, please seize this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young parents and sign up now.

Class News...
Songs with Bubs
We’re had lots of fun with songs and rhythm at Songs With Bubs. Jess on fiddle and guitar, Jo on ukelele and everyone on percussion of wide variety.
|
It was fabulous using the purpose-built crèche with everything you could possibly need, including access to the toy cupboard at the end of each session.
|
The best bit was watching everyone gain confidence with each other and with their singing.
|
We look forward to starting again in Term 3, just for six weeks.
|

New Containers in Containers for Change...
Did you know you can help raise funds for Kalamunda Community Learning Centre simply by recycling your eligible drink containers?
|
In addition to cans and bottles, you can now also donate wine bottles, spirit bottles and a range of other eligible containers through the Containers for Change program. Funds raised have already helped purchase a new bench and a PA system for the Centre.
|
If you would like to donate your containers, simply place them in the green bin located in the Craft Room courtyard at the front of the Kalamunda Community Learning Centre building. You can also collect a green bag to take home and fill at your convenience.
|
