Welcome...
Hope this edition of Centre Talk finds you all enjoying the odd burst of summer that pops in for a while, promises to warm us to our bones, then disappears. The spring wildflowers are making an appearance as you drive though bush vistas and the blossom progression in the orchards signal the start of spring. Fresh fruit on its way, eventually.

This edition has a request from the coordinators to examine the photos on display in the foyer and add names to faces. John aims to make those in the evening classes aware of safety issues and there is a reminder, both here and in its own section, about Open Day.
|
For those that love a new work of art or book there is the possibility to buy one; Zofia P. is donating artworks for sale, with proceeds to KCLC, and the Creatively Writing Workshop will have their latest anthology for sale on the day.
|
Registrar Bronwyn has reminded all about Term 4 courses still available for enrolment. Have a look and see if any resonate.

Around the Centre
There are a few exciting things happening around the Centre that we would love everyone to get involved in.
|
A trip down memory lane
We have started going through our collection of old photographs, and the photo boards now displayed in reception have been a real hit. It has been lovely seeing people stop to look at the photos, share memories and have a laugh at some of the fashions, hairstyles and perhaps how much younger we all looked!
|
|
If you haven’t had a look yet, please take a moment to do so. We are also trying to put names to as many faces as possible, so if you recognize someone please let us know.
|
We have lots of photographs to go through, so the photo boards in Reception will be changed each week, giving everyone the chance to see more of our wonderful collection and perhaps recognize a few familiar faces.
|
|
|
|
At our upcoming Centre Lunch, we will also have a table set up with photo albums containing even more of the old photographs for everyone to look through. So come along, enjoy some lunch and take a little trip down memory lane with us, you never know who you might recognize.
|
We would love to see you there, share a few laughs, swap some stories and enjoy a lovely lunch together. The Executive Committee and CLG will be joining, so please come along and say hello, it is always wonderful to see everyone together.
|
WHS Update
Thanks to John Paskulich from our WHS Committee for taking the time to attend all our evening classes and go through the Centre’s evacuation procedures. There are surprisingly quite a few evening classes, so we really appreciate John taking the time to visit everyone and making sure we all know what to do in an emergency.
|
Open Day is coming up!
If anyone would like to donate a prize for our Raffle, we would really appreciate your generosity. Every prize donated helps make the day ever more enjoyable.

From the Registrar...
Term Four Courses
|
We have several courses that commence in Term 4 which still have vacancies. There are also limited vacancies in some continuing courses and these will be placed on sale for a Term 4 commencement.
|

In-person enrolments for these courses will be accepted at Reception from the 20th to 25th September and for the first few weeks of Term 4.

Open Day...
|
Only a week to go before Open Day and I hope you all have your items ready for display or sale.
|
There are a few details that I would like to bring to your attention:
|
- You may bring your books and White Elephant items in to the Centre this week. Please remember no magazines, no electrical goods and no rubbish!
- The set up time starts at 9.00am Saturday morning with the displays being arranged from 10.00am till 12.00 noon. This will give the set-up team time to place tables, chairs and boards in place ready for exhibitors.
- Do not forget to register with Mary, if you would like to sell goods in either the Market/Craft Room or the Gallery (purple and white rooms) for paintings. For more information, please click here.
- We would love donations for the Raffle. We have a few items but it will be much more interesting if we can make up more baskets and prizes.
I am really looking forward to seeing everyone as it is always a very social occasion with terrific entertainment, and a great place to meet up with friends and family and check out amazing works of art.

Secure your piece of Zofia Artwork in a Sealed-bid Auction
|
|
|
During Open Day, Zofia Paluszak will be auctioning off up to 25 of her fibre artworks (originals and prints) to the highest bidders in a Sealed-bid Auction!
|
Since 1996, Zofia’s works have been exhibited at local art exhibitions (Mazenod College, Darlington Arts Festival, St. Brigid’s College, Zig Zag Gallery) and at art galleries in Perth and regional WA. In 2000, Zofia started tutoring in the KCLC Silk Painting class, which later evolved into the Exploring Fibre Art class.

Bidding will open from 10am until 2pm on Open Day and winners will be notified from 2pm on the day.
|
|
|
|
How it will work:
1. Choose your price.
2. Write your price and details on the bidding coupon provided and put it in the box next to the artwork.
3. The highest bidder will be contacted after 2pm on the day.
4. Pay KCLC for your winning bid.
|
|
All proceeds will go to KCLC - thank you Zofia!
|

Speaker Spot Reminder...
Don't forget that Jen Irvine is presenting 'The Centre: From Community to Musical' for the next Speaker Spot on Friday 25 September from 12.45 to 2.45pm.
|
Jen will be sharing the inspiring story behind The Centre, a musical based on the remarkable women who founded WA's first Women's Learning Centre in Kalamunda in 1977, now Kalamunda Community Learning Centre.
|
|
Exploring themes of community, social inclusion and belonging, the musical celebrates the women who challenged traditional gender roles and came together to create lasting change. As a special highlight, one of the performers will sing a couple of selected songs from the show.
|
|
|
|
|
Cost is $5 per person (including afternoon tea). To reserve your seat, please book and pay at the KCLC Reception. Members and non members welcome!

Writing Creatively Workshop
|
The Monday, Writing Creatively Group is launching its third anthology, A Flurry of Words, at the Open Day, on Sunday 20 September, for the bargain price of $20.
|
|
|
|
A lively mix of writers, styles, and subjects — there’s something for every reader, from the thoughtful to the quirky, the serious to the surprising. Come along, grab a copy, and discover what happens when a whole group of imaginations takes flight.

Class News Semester Two...
|
✍ Please feel free to let us know anything interesting that you are up to in your Semester Two classes, even though we don't have any official class news reporters. Submissions can be emailed to [email protected] or written notes handed in to KCLC office.
|
This can be a class activity, or description, of what happens in the class (or tell us about your wonderful Tutor!). Make it succinct, around 150 words, give or take, and photos. These will be shared in Centre Talk when space permits.
