March Happenings...
|
The Centre Lunch and the General Meeting are the important events for March and a great way to meet other members. All details are below. The Quiz attracted lots of clever people in our last issue, so hop in and try your luck this time for a place in the draw.

From the Executive...
It looks like all the classes have settled down as we swing into week five. I cannot believe the term is going so quickly.
|
The weather has at last cooled off a little which at least makes life more pleasant as we climb into our not quite so hot vehicles.
|
On Friday I watched people coming out of the 'Centre Presents' talk about Advanced Care Planning. Everyone agreed it had been a really good presentation and gave them something to think about. Margaret, our Programmer and Centre Presents organiser, will probably have the presenter back for all those people who missed it, including myself.
|
One of the things we Coordinators like best is the way people come into the Centre with a smile on their faces as they look forward to catching up with friends and learn, participate, or work on projects. It makes for a great atmosphere.
|
For those who are unaware, we have a Niceties Officer, Beth Johnson. Beth very kindly sends out greeting or bereavement cards to those people who need them. In some cases, we hope someone in their class will call or send cards for members who are having operations or are ill and would appreciate the contact. For more serious occasions, please tell Beth and she will respond with a card. Just leave a message for Beth at Reception.

General Meeting...
On behalf of the Executive, you are invited to the next KCLC General Meeting to be held at 1200 hrs on Friday 22 March 2024, in the Main Hall at the Kalamunda Community Centre.

Centre Lunch...
The next Centre Lunch is on Friday 15 March from 11.45am in the Main Hall at Kalamunda Community Centre. All Kalamunda Community Learning Centre members are invited.
|
No booking is required. Please just come along with a plate of food to share and enjoy catching up with other members over lunch.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of two of our most respected members.
|
Max was the tutor of Scrap to Sculpture for many years. He even arranged an exhibition in the Zig Zag gallery of the work the class had completed over the years. It was a great success. He also wrote excellent children's books about a Beagle who worked at the airport and saved many people from disaster by finding a bomb.
|
Our long term member, Rodney Van Proctor passed away on Tuesday 5th March. Many of us will remember Rodney at Friday meetings with a joey in a pouch having regular bottle feeds, whilst knitting with two balls of wool at a time, to produce new pouches. She was a stalwart at Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for many years. Rodney always took time to make new members feel welcome at KCLC. I thank her for that kindness.

Rodney led a remarkable life with an enquiring mind embracing many varied activities, one of which was to be involved with the Learning Centre during the 1990s and 2000s. She was a fearless wildlife warrior, artist and extraordinary nurturer. She was the designer of exotic and native gardens, a beautiful craft maker, embroiderer, knitter, jazz lover and chef. Rodney was a supporter and volunteer for many other good environmental causes, local and statewide. She had the gift of making friends from all walks of life.

Truly a life well lived and loved by her family and friends.
|
|

Display Cabinet...
|
Sorry to say the Display Cabinet is empty, just waiting for your arts, crafts and activities to be displayed. Members love to see what other groups are doing and it's a good way to look at groups that we might like to join at a later date. Just check with Mary in the Office for a calendar slot for your display.

|
Class News...
|
Calling all members who signed up to the 'Class News' workgroup.... It's a little early to have much to report but I'm sure some groups have something new and exciting going on, especially the ones such as 'walking' etc who may not be able to set up a display in the Cabinet. Please send a paragraph or two to the email address below with a photo, telling us what is happening in your part of the Centre. This way we can see beyond our own groups and connect with a wider variety of activities.

The Containers for Change project is really doing well. Thank you so much for your donations. We have just hit the $300 mark which is amazing.
|
Now comes the fun part! What do we spend it on? There have been various suggestions - items for the Creche, buying a coffee machine or buying tables and benches for the deck area. If you have other suggestions, then please come to Reception to tell us.
|
|
Meanwhile keep up the great work of donating all your 10c containers (preferably without lids) but no wine bottles unfortunately, though I believe the government is thinking about including them.
|
|
|
