Here we go again!
2024 at the Centre is here at last and we can't wait to meet our new members and catch up with old friends and acquaintances. Not to mention all the exciting activities, old and new, that are waiting for us. Get ready for a stimulating and fun-filled Semester One.

From the Executive...
A warm welcome to Semester One and when I say warm, I should really say very hot! You will breathe a sigh of relief on entry to the Centre for classes, as the air conditioners are working really well.
|
Enrolment was very successful except for the payment 'glitch' which was not our fault and no members' bank accounts have been compromised.
|
As you heard last year, we now have a bus service that comes to the Centre at the times that fit in with our classes rather than the times that fit in with the bus schedule (which fitted in with the train schedule). Common sense has prevailed. Details below.
|
Margaret, our Programmer, has worked very hard to fit classes into the many rooms we have but we have just about reached our capacity. We are trying to work out if we can have more classes in the evening, but that means arranging a new team to run reception.
|
Please keep up the good record of doing your workgroups as they are very important for the running of the Centre and keeping costs down.
|

Enrolments...
Enrolments have now closed
Enrolments are not permitted in the first two weeks of the Semester except for new members and returning members with extenuating circumstances (a $10 administration fee will be applied).
|
Late enrolments will be accepted from week three providing there are vacancies and the tutor accepts late enrolments. Full course fees will be applied.

Enrolment problem solved
Unfortunately our first enrolment day didn't go to plan due to our payment gateway, SECURE PAY (via Australia Post), rejecting credit card payments. This was a fault of SECURE PAY and could not have been foreseen by us. Our site was not compromised, and the issue has now been resolved. Please be assured our website does not retain members' card or bank details. Our team worked tirelessly in what was a very busy and frustrating day. A big thank you to them and to all our members for your patience and understanding.

Do you enjoy attending the Learning Centre?

Many members are keen for this Semester to start so they can reconnect with friends, continue with their creative activities or try something new. Welcome new Members!
|
|
This Centre functions on everyone volunteering to keep it running at a cost that is affordable. There are 121 people who have possibly forgotten to sign up in Workgroups. Please 'Login' and 'Sign Up' to help keep our Centre running smoothly, the way it has done for about 45 years. Not sure if you have 'Signed Up'? At the bottom of the Workgroup Sign Up Page your commitment is listed. For example:

My Future Care: Advanced Care Planning Special Talk...
We all want to have a say in what happens in the last part of our lives. By making plans that cover our care, lifestyle, health and finances, we work out what we want, as well as making things easier on those around us. This process is called Advance Care Planning.
|
Join us for the next Centre Presents Speaker Series event on Friday 8 March at 12.45pm, when Palliative Care WA will cover information on what is involved in Advance Care Planning, how to get started, and how to talk with your loved ones about your end-of-life wishes. It is a practical and interactive workshop where you will have the chance to get your questions answered.
|
Anybody is welcome to attend this free event. Although there is no cost to attend, bookings need to be made at Reception to secure your spot.
|

Booking deadline is Wednesday 6 March, unless booked out prior.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Mary Hutchison. Mary is remembered as a marvellous lady who taught watercolour at the Centre for many, many years with grace, skill and an incredible sense of humour. Mary was still tutoring at the Centre when over 90 and was loved by all. She will be warmly remembered by all those she taught.
|

We have just this morning received the sad news that Tom, a well known and long-time KCLC member and former office-holder has passed in Sydney, where part of his family lives. He would have been aged 99 in April and was still attending classes last year. The funeral will most likely be held in Sydney, but there will be a memorial service in Kalamunda, possibly in April. When available, more details will be given in Centre Talk for those who knew Tom and would like to attend.
