From the Executive...

Hello all!

The first two weeks of the semester have gone quite smoothly for those involved in the day-to-day administration of the Centre. However, there is always something to do! We hope everyone has settled into classes, re-connected with old acquaintances and perhaps made new ones!

Please pop into the office/reception if you have any questions or just to say hello! For all those fire drill enthusiasts out there, YES, we will be having 🔥 drills (date to be decided). I personally can't wait!

Your Coordinators - Annie with Bridget (nearly home from hols) and Anne-Marie

Open Day...

Kalamunda Community Learning Centre will be opening its doors between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 10 September for its much-anticipated Open Day. Admission is free and everyone is invited!

The Open Day is the opportunity for students and tutors from the Centre to showcase the work from their classes to enthral and inspire.

There will also be a second hand book stall, entertainment from the ukulele groups, tai chi demonstration and chess display, raffles, homemade produce, crafts and plant stall and refreshments available to purchase from the cafe.

This is a great opportunity to invite your friends and family to come and have a look at what Kalamunda Community Learning Centre offers.

Book stall

We will be asking members for donations for the book stall, so please start collecting together your book donations and we will let you know closer to the date when you can start bringing them in to the Centre.

Market and Exchange products

If you have any homegrown plants or produce or home/class made crafts that you would like to sell on the day, we will let you know closer to the day when you can start bringing these into the Centre. 10% of all sales on the day will go to the Centre.

Open Day Assistance

If you have time to help out on the day, we would love your assistance. Here are some of the roles that still need filling:
  • Cafe: Serve and clean up (shifts from 12pm-2pm or 2pm-4pm). Please click here to register online or register your interest with Reception.
  • Members' Market: Help staff the Market Stall selling items that members have made in Centre classes or at home (shifts available throughout the day). Please click here to register online or register your interest with Reception.
  • Car Parking: Help direct cars into parking areas (shift from 12.30pm to 2pm). Please click here to register online or register your interest with Reception.
  • Set Up: Help to set up display boards and tables on the Saturday (shifts from 9am). Please click here to register online or register your interest with Reception.

Class Report...

From the Pottery Class

We are off and running again with lots of enthusiasm and good ideas.

We have a wonderful new removal batt throwing system made from hard plastic cutting boards and for these, we would like to thank Lionel Panketh for his hard work in cutting them all up with such great precision!

We are still having intermittent problems with the kiln much to the tutors' frustration. However, David Irvine comes to the rescue and rapidly gets things back on track. Thanks David!

Kris and Wendy

The Display Cabinet...

The Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon Watercolour Painting groups have combined to showcase their works. If you are in the Centre, drop by the Cabinet to see the full display.

If your group is not involved in craft but in other interesting pursuits, don't forget to tell us about yourselves by sending in a brief summary of what you are up to and an accompanying photo.

Library Information...

Library books are available to borrow from two locations:
  • Opposite Reception there are two library shelves which are opened each day. There you will find mainly Art, Art History, Embroidery and Calligraphy books.
  • In the trolley outside the Craft Room are Painting, Drawing, Pottery, Mosaics and other Craft books as well as Language books.
Information about how to borrow is available in both locations.

Jenny, Librarian

The Joke...

Six people were hanging on a rope, under a helicopter: five men and one woman.
The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, otherwise they were all going to fall.

They weren't able to choose that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech.

She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.

As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping ! ! ! ! !
The Quiz...

Here's the solution to the last Quiz. John W was first in with the correct answer so Congrats, John.
