From the Executive...

Welcome back or is that just Welcome!

Whether you are an existing member, new to the Centre, or have come back after some time away, we look forward to seeing you over the course of the semester!

After what seemed to be the quickest four weeks in history, enrolment week commenced. Bronwyn and Caroline spent most of the break ironing out last-minute glitches so that we could all enrol seamlessly. They succeeded! Many members commented on how smooth enrolments have become. So, THANK YOU, Bronwyn and Caroline.

There is also a team of volunteers who help during enrolment week, some for a few hours, others for the whole week. They make coffees, supply morning teas (both a workgroup commitment), while others enrol those who come in person. A willing band of lunch ladies, ably led by Rosemary and Margaret, kept the team fed. Enrolment week just couldn't happen without these generous people, so thank you all.

I mentioned workgroups - these are a vital part of our success. When enrolling, you are asked to commit to a workgroup. If you are still to complete this part of your enrolment, can you please do so as soon as possible. Our workgroup leader position is also voluntary, so if everyone signs up we don't have to chase people! If you have any questions, please pop into the office.

I (Annie) have had a bit of a close reminder that Covid is still around and not particularly pleasant, so if you are unwell, please stay home. If you cannot make your class, you can call the office to leave an apology.

Thank you.

Annie, Bridget MIA (long service leave really) and Anne-Marie (our newest Coordinator)

Late enrolments
...

Enrolments have now closed. Enrolments are not permitted in the first two weeks of the Semester. Late enrolments will be accepted from week three providing there are vacancies and the tutor accepts late enrolments. Full course fees will be applied.

Workgroups...

Did you really sign up?

Our system is not perfect and once you have selected the workgroup task you want to fulfil and clicked on 'Sign up >>', it takes you to a new screen where you have the opportunity to check your details and you then have to click on 'Sign me up!' in the black box. Some people miss clicking this additional 'sign me up'.
You might like to check you are signed up as the system shows 70 sign ups to go!

If you think you are one of these 70, please fill in your choice now by logging onto our website. If you are already signed up for a task, then it will show at the bottom of the Workgroup Sign Up page when you are logged in.

Here are several groups that really need your support:
Reception Desk Backup - be available for relief at the Reception Desk.
Creche Roster - help our wonderful creche staff to care for the children.
Open Day - there are lots of tasks to chose from including helping in the cafe, staff the members' market and assisting with set up.
Centre Lunches - you can help by providing a plate, helping to set up/pack up or assist in the kitchen with serving and cleaning.
More information is available at each link above.

If none of these fit your skill set, then please email Workgroups@kclc.org.au. Tell us what you can offer and we will match you with a task. If you would like to be a Leader, please see Mary in the office. We have vacancies for several positions. Maybe you would like to sit at the Desk for half a day and just see what we do. Unsure about signing up for a workgroup on the computer? Talk to the Office staff before you start your class.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the other members who are signed up and ready to keep our Centre working.

Pam

Defibrillator Tutorial...

During the second week of this term, we will have a short 4-minute video tutorial on using the Defibrillator. It will run between the AM and PM classes in the Main Hall. Margaret will be on hand at the Centre on the Monday and Friday for any questions.

The Display Cabinet...

Towards the end of the first semester, the display cabinet showcased a magnificent Patchwork display. This was the work of Evelyn Riddell who is a past class member.

Patchwork encompasses so many techniques that can be used to make a quilt (or other items) and Evelyn's display demonstrated this perfectly.

There are so many different styles of quilts, from the traditional patterns which can be made by hand or machine, to contemporary and art quilts, and scrap quilts. Other popular items that can be made are potholders, table runners, cushions and bags.

Most class members work on their own project, but complete beginners are always very welcome and will receive as much help as they require.

Patchwork is a wonderful group activity. It is very social and the sharing of ideas and experiences is almost as important as the sewing itself.

Editor's note: To showcase your group's skills in the Display Cabinet during Second Semester, contact the KCLC office for available places. There are still quite a few dates left.
