From the Executive...
Centre closure on Thursday 12 September
Due to a scheduled power outage affecting the Kalamunda Community Centre, we will not be running any classes on Thursday 12 September. Therefore the building will be closed all day! This is out of our control but we do apologise for any inconvenience. Please pop into the office if you have any questions.
|
Fire Drills
A series of practice Fire Drills were conducted in the Centre during last week. Unfortunately, some drills had to be cancelled due to inclement weather, however the majority of members would be familiar with the Centre’s Fire Drill procedures.
|
Thanks to everyone concerned for your prompt and orderly conduct, which assisted Duty Staff in their responsibilities. All classes assembled correctly in the designated Assembly Area in under the recommended five minutes.

Enrolments for Term 4...
Some of our continuing courses have vacancies and we are offering members the opportunity to join these in Term 4 with a 50% discount on the course costs.
|
Enrolments for these courses will only be available in-person via the Reception Desk from Friday 6 September until Friday 20 September (as we may need to close enrolments after this date). Late enrolments taken from Friday 6 September will be for a Term 4 commencement, which begins on Monday 7 October.

Open Day...
Kalamunda Community Learning Centre will be opening its doors between 10am and 4pm this Sunday 8 September for its much-anticipated Open Day. Admission is free and everyone is invited!
|
The Open Day is the opportunity for students and tutors from the Centre to showcase the work from their classes to enthral and inspire. There will also be a second hand book stall, white elephant stall, entertainment from our ukulele group, Tai Chi demonstration, raffles, homemade produce, crafts and plant stall and refreshments available to purchase from the cafe.
|
This is a great opportunity to invite your friends and family to come and have a look at what Kalamunda Community Learning Centre offers.
|
It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day on Sunday thank goodness. Preparations are going well and everything seems to be falling into place with the amazing help of Bill, who has run many of our past Open Days, and Mary, our Office Manager.
|
Book and white elephant stall
Saturday (between 8am and 2pm) is the last day for bringing in your book and white elephant donations. This year for the first time, I am introducing a FREE table which will hold items like material, empty files, unwanted toys etc. but remember, just like the charity shops, do not put anything in that you wouldn’t give to your best friend. Please remember that we are not allowed to sell electrical goods!
|
Market and Exchange products
I am hoping the markets will be a great success and we may have to expand to outside the craft room in the courtyard. Members who have registered to sell their homegrown plants, produce or home/class made crafts on the day, need to bring their goods in on Saturday 7 September between 8am and 2pm. Baked goods only on Sunday 8 September from 8am. Having most items delivered on the Saturday will make it easier to set up ready for the big day although we realise that it is not practical for everyone to do so. Any unsold items need to be picked up at 4pm on the Sunday.
|
Open Day Assistance
We also still have some Open Day workgroups that need filling, please check the list below...
|
Thank you to all the volunteers who have offered their services to help on what I hope will be a great day!

Class News...
French Conversations
We meet every Tuesday with notre professeur Elizabeth who guides us through a variety of exercises, which help our understanding and improve our conversational skills.
|
We speak in French on all manner of topics, to express opinions and share information. We add new words and phrases to our vocabulary almost every time we meet.
|
We all love the beautiful French language and are keen to improve our language skills, either just for fun or sometimes to prepare for a visit to la belle France.

Gentle Yoga and Relaxation
The Superman Pose, or Viparita Shalabhasana, is a beginner to intermediate posture that helps to build strength in the lower back. Superman Pose requires the entire body to be engaged while toning the abs and back and stretching the shoulders and chest. The yogis certainly found their super powers last week during class!

Courses for 2025...
We are in the process of setting up the courses for 2025. If you have a passion for a subject and would like to share your skills and expertise with our grateful community of learners, as a volunteer tutor or facilitator, we would love to hear from you.
|
We do have some spare capacity for sessions in 2025 and now is a good time to slot a new course into the timetable.
|
Information about becoming a tutor can be found on our website.

In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Katrina Drayton. Katrina was such a lovely soul and brought sunshine with her wherever she went.
