Creative Writing for Beginners: What is it and why become involved?
These are the questions I asked. I completed writing my life story at the Learning Centre, which I enjoyed. It was familiar and factual with no chance to being ‘creative,’ which goes beyond the traditional realms of normal writing. To me being creative was to be artistic, and perhaps required higher education? How wrong I was.
Creative writing encompasses a number of different categories and styles across a whole range of fields of both fiction and non-fiction writing. In this sense, creative writing can technically be considered any writing of contemporary, original composition, bound by no standard conventions and using a whole range of elements in the craft.
Beginning writers, come and stimulate your creative self by drafting stories to share. Receive encouragement, suggestions with positive feedback and support from class members and from understanding learning facilitators.
Morris is a published poet and Tania has published ten novels and won numerous awards for her short stories.
But above all, have fun while writing. We have lots of laughs. It is a team effort. This is the most satisfying learning experience I have had for the last two years since joining the class. And at my 88 years that is saying something.
See you there next term!
