Farewell to Tutors
We are saying goodbye to several tutors and greatly appreciate their time and commitment to the community and wish them all the best for the future.
Katie Fairweather faithfully facilitated ‘Teddy Bear Circle’ for many, many years and is responsible for these hills being fully populated by a very large contingent of teddies. This course is not being offered next year. Katie is continuing to serve at KCLC as an Assistant Coordinator.
Maureen Teasdale is handing over the role of tutor for ‘Book Club 2’ next year and Alison Houlahan and Angela Corfe have kindly taken up the baton. We wish you a wonderful holiday Maureen and thank you for your years of leading this group of avid readers.
After many years of teaching new players and encouraging more experienced ones, Annamaria Thorn has retired from tutoring ‘Ukulele for Absolute Beginners and Friends’. Annamarie’s patience and dedication have been truly appreciated by her many devoted class members; she has been a stalwart of the Centre. We are very grateful to Roger Penman for stepping into the role of tutor.
Isobel Venus, who has facilitated ‘Table Tennis’ for several years has handed her bat over to Liz Marshall. Thank you to both ladies for making it possible for this group of keen players to meet and enjoy a good game each week.
Gwyn Thomas stepped into the role of facilitator for the Thursday afternoon ‘Pottery Workshop’ at the beginning of this year and her expertise has been very much appreciated by all our potters. While Gwyn is stepping out of the role of facilitator next year, we are very grateful that she will continue to support the other tutors and classes. Judy Houlahan and Katie von Schill have kindly taken up the responsibility for looking after the afternoon class.

Crèche News...
I am delighted to make the happy announcement that the crèche will continue in its present form in 2026, with all of the members currently using it wanting their children to return next year.
Running the crèche this year has been a heart-warming experience. Thank you to the children, their parents and volunteer members for making this so.
There has been great support “behind the scenes”, with encouragement and help in many forms from administration people and the general membership.
Many current volunteers have assured me that they will be re-joining the crèche team next year, which is wonderful.
There is always room for more volunteers, so to all of the former children out there in the membership – who perhaps haven’t played with play dough for a while or recently watched gloriously shiny bubbles floating away on the breeze – the crèche workgroup offers these joys and more!
Our adult to child ratio is often one to one (or one to two at the most), so two hours of caring is not hard.
Seasons Greetings to you all.

Class News...
Ukulele Fun
So…dear Centre members you may have come across the entertaining ‘Uke-a-Roos' performing at the centre on Open Day but did you know there is another ukulele group which meets on Wednesday mornings?
The clue is in the title, we’re all about having fun, singing songs whilst learning to play the ukulele. This class was led, and inspired, by the lovely Annamaria Thorn who, has been unable to continue due to ill health, and is sadly missed. However, her legacy to our class has been to leave us with both the means and motivation to continue in the same spirit, with emphasis on the ‘fun’ part.
Everyone has the chance to suggest songs to include in our repertoire, and select favourites each week, so it’s very much a cooperative group. If this sounds like something you would enjoy, please consider joining us next year.

Life and General Drawing
Have you ever been curious to know what is happening behind the ‘No entry’ signs on the closed doors of Mirda-Yoont (the orange room) on Wednesday afternoons?
Well, it’s our Life Drawing class, expertly guided by the very knowledgable David Thornton, a superb artist in his own right. David has a wealth of experience which he loves to share and he is always very generous with his time.
This class offers a rare opportunity to challenge our drawing skills, with access to professional life (nude) models in a calm and supportive environment. The course is equally divided between the life drawing and general drawing sessions. Life drawing can be quite demanding and general drawing sessions provide additional time to focus on our overall drawing techniques.
As a group sharing a love of art, we have formed close friendships in recent years and look forward to continuing in 2026.

Exit Stage Left
Have you ever thought about funerals? I knew nothing and had an unfortunate wake-up call when I tried to organise one.
Tutor Faye Smith provided a course that is so informative and helpful, how much you need to know, and it is not depressing. After all it is just part of life – and death.
As we are coming to the end of term for the above class run by Marilyn B-C, I would just like to thank her for the excellent job of presenting many varied and interesting topics in science.
‘Eclectic’ has been the operative word for this class. Marilyn has covered a wide variety of topics within the biological sciences. In fact, in one 2-hour period we covered Immunology, Microbiology, Genetics and Virology with a 20-minute tea and biscuit break included!

✍ Please feel free to let us know anything interesting that you are up to in your Semester Two classes, even though we don't have any official class news reporters. There is one more edition of CT left for Term 4. Submissions can be emailed to centre_talk@kclc.org.au or written notes handed in to KCLC office.
This can be a class activity, a description of what happens in class or you can tell us about your wonderful Tutor! Make it succinct, around 150 words and please include photos, which should be sent as separate images with the word document. These class news items will be included in an edition of Centre Talk when space permits.

Display Cabinet...
Calligraphy
This is a visual art form of writing that uses quills, ink pens (lots of nib shapes) & ink brushes on specific papers to achieve "beautiful writing". This display cabinet certainly contained this.
