Welcome...
This edition includes a round up from The Coordinators about the successful start to Semester 1, information about future fire drills, the help you can get from the reception team and their hours, and a request for more volunteers as well.
Registrar, Bronwyn, has provided information about late enrolments and Term 2 class availability i.e. spots still available. There is a Centre Lunch coming up which is always a great opportunity to get to know other members and Mad Mabel is lost😂. Can you help find her?
Thanks to all those classes that have sent reports. It is wonderful to read about what everyone is doing; Intermediate French, The Week That Was and Watercolour Painting.
The Display Cabinet is filled!! It currently has a snapshot of art history around the world... an enjoyable visual and reading experience. The Sharing a Hills Christmas Inc. have sent a thank you for all those in the KCLC who made donations to helps less fortunate at Christmas.
Finally, it is wonderful to be back amongst friends...

Two weeks in...
We are already two weeks into the term at KCLC and how time flies when everyone is busy learning and connecting. It has been fantastic to see classes up and running so smoothly. A big welcome to all our new members, and welcome back to those returning. We are so pleased to see such great energy and participation across all courses.
If you have any questions, concerns, or need a hand with anything at all, please come and see us. Our lovely reception team is always happy to help and can point you in the right direction. Need some photocopying? Just ask at reception they can help you. Office hours: 9:00am – 2.30pm.
Over the next few weeks, we will be holding fire drills. We will make sure you have plenty of notice beforehand, but when the time comes, please take them seriously as they are an important part of keeping everyone safe.
We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help out at reception. If you would like to get involved and be part of the day-to-day buzz of KCLC, have a chat with a Coordinator, we would love to hear from you.
And finally, don’t forget to enjoy the social side of KCLC. Take a moment to chat before class, learn someone’s name, share a story, or have a laugh. KCLC isn’t just about courses it is about community, friendships, and learning together.
Here is to a wonderful term ahead!

Class News...
Intermediate French
Our Intermediate French class is off to a great start with our wonderful tutor, Jeannette. We have 3 new students this semester and they have already settled in well. It's a lovely friendly group and we will enjoy becoming more fluent in French as we progress.
We start each session with study of written French and we've all had fun getting our heads around grammar which is either somewhere in our previous experience and having to be recalled or, something new! Lots of discussion and amusement happen as we learn. Jeannette also introduces us to French idioms which can cause chuckles when we hear the literal meanings. For example... in French, if you are not known for being a good singer, you tell people you sing like a saucepan with a hole in it!
Following our afternoon tea break, it's time for using our spoken French. We discuss news stories, personal experiences and sometimes have a quiz, or play a game involving spoken French.
Jeannette is a keen tutor, always ready to help us and happy to answer any questions we have. We're all looking forward to having even more fun while becoming more confident French speakers as the year unfolds.

Water Colour Painting
Our popular Water Colour Painting class started today for 2026, with numerous new members and “old” ones returning. It does seem to have been a long time since our last class in 2025 and it was great to be back in our beautiful ‘studio’ overlooking the Jorgie Park trees.
It is an eclectic class of happy, enthusiastic, social artists, ably encouraged by our attentive tutors, Averil and Beth. We are fortunate to have them bringing their artistic skills to class, to help us make the most of our skills, whatever our level of experience/competence may be. We are very grateful to them both.

We are lucky to have such a lovely, happy group and will hopefully produce many paintings worthy of the Open Day display this year.
