Welcome...
Welcome to this very eclectic news letter. A link to the 2025 AGM minutes is up first, followed by Term 4 courses and a timely reminder that you need to be part of a Workgroup to contribute to the smooth running of KCLC. There is a reminder of the first Semester 2 Centre Lunch and Bridget gives an update on the Containers for Change project, good news indeed. A new Housekeeping segment has been included to remind us all of our responsibilities to each other's welfare, and an update from the Crèche Coordinator, Katherine.
Finally, there are requests for Class News happenings and creative works to be exhibited in the currently empty Display Cabinet😊. If you have lost an item, you may see it in the Lost Property section.

This week we had the fire drills. High viz vests, an executive member with a megaphone, tutors last to leave (felt like the captain on the Titanic), and class secretaries to record members. What I did not realise was that it was a competition till I found myself in a drill that was the 'fastest' thus far to empty the KCLC.
Such order but it did make me wonder, in the event of an actual fire, if we could be that ordered. Anecdotally, it would appear probably not!! An examination of the literature does suggest the anecdotes reflect the reality as human behaviour is complex and often deviates from the order seen in a drill. These do not factor fear, panic or our herd mentality and we opt for the known routes out, hesitate, delay and want explicit instructions. However, regular drills help, 'practice makes perfect'. Remember that next time!!

Term Four Courses...
We have three exciting courses that are being offered for Term Four only. As they still have vacancies we have opened them on our website so you can enrol in them online or come into the Centre for assistance. Please check out the details for each of the courses on our website:

Workgroups...
This week we will be checking workgroups to ensure all members, who are attending a course as a full-time class member, have registered for a workgroup. If you haven't registered yet, please do so ASAP to save our hard-working workgroup manager a lot of work and frustration.
You can register for your workgroup online or visit the Reception Desk.
We are still in need of a Class Secretary for many courses and a desperate need for more volunteers for Open Day (Sunday 21st September) and the Thank You Dinner (Thursday 27th November).

The first Centre Lunch for Semester Two will be on Friday 22 August from 11.45am in the Main Hall. All members are invited, and no booking is required; simply bring a plate of food to share. It’s very relaxed and great fun getting to know other members as you enjoy the lunchtime offerings. See you there!

We have now reached $1000 plus which is awesome! While we are continuing to add to that, we would like to hear from people as to what we should spend it on to get better facilities for the Centre.
Could it be lots of pot plants, or a coffee machine, though I have been told that is not practical, it could be paintings though we are not allowed to hang them and anyway we have more than enough wonderful and talented painters in our midst that there is no need to buy any from outside the Centre.

The best thing I can think of at the moment is possibly table and chairs for out on the deck so we can go and enjoy our morning/afternoon tea along with the view (see above). Just one idea I hope you have more.

Housekeeping...
Tis the Season! No, not the festive one. Flu/COVID/cold. Please stay at home if you are feeling unwell! We have had numerous absences this week due to COVID and the flu.
When making tea and coffee, your spoon shouldn't be left in the container for others to use! Please wash, dry and put away, ready for the next person. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping yourself and our fellow members healthy!
Milk, feast or a famine! While it is preferred that you take your milk home, if you wish to leave it for next time, please label it with your class name. If you have to leave it behind, also label it as 'please use!’.
Tidy classrooms! It is everyone's responsibility to leave our classrooms in a tidy state. This includes wiping down the tables! Chux are available in the office. Bins can also be emptied into the main kitchen bins if they are overflowing. We appreciate your help with keeping our spaces tidy and ready for the next users.

Class News...

Class News Semester Two
✍ Please feel free to let us know anything interesting that you are up to in your Semester Two classes, even though we don't have any official class news reporters. Submissions can be emailed to centre_talk@kclc.org.au or written notes handed in to KCLC office.
This can be a class activity, or description, of what happens in the class (or tell us about your wonderful Tutor!). Make it succinct, around 150 words, give or take, and photos. These will be shared in Centre Talk when space permits.

We were happy to welcome a new toddler to the crèche this week.
With three delightful toddlers and a charming six month old baby now attending, any volunteers for the crèche workgroup will be received enthusiastically. Details available on the workgroup sign up list.

And she went to the cabinet and it was bare.
Now is the time to put your handiwork on display for all KCLC members to enjoy as they pass the display cabinet. It would be great to see up close those creative works that have been presented in image-only form up till now.
Sign up for a two week display period with Mary at the front office.
