Welcome...
I hope you have enjoyed your first two weeks of Term 4 as you catch up with friends and resume your many and varied activities. I guess we are now on the countdown to Christmas, as time flies.
This issue includes a reminder of the class secretary rolls, a pictorial round-up of the latest Centre Lunch, what to do if there is a water outage and books dominate both the Class News and information about the KCLC library. Then we have the pottery from the display cabinet and Su's observations on Lost Property.
Music has been dominant in the last week; as a ukulele group member and the topic of my science group. Listening to music involves most parts of your brain especially the right side-where your emotional responses are located including those involved with the pleasure music can give. Music can also reduce stress and is often associated with memories. All good reasons to listen to music and even participate; sing, play an instrument. You are never too old🎶

From the Coordinators...
To Our Class Secretaries!
You are more than just someone who marks the roll! You are also the communication link to members. This helps us get information out to those who may not have email or social media. Any notes in the folder that are added during term are important and need to be relayed to the whole class. Once read out it can be signed: Reception will remove old notices. We thank you for taking on this essential role!

The latest Centre Lunch was a great example of how inclusive the KCLC membership is now and included both younger and canine attendees😊.
Members enjoyed food, humour and company at lunchtime on Friday 17th October.

Housekeeping...
Water Outages: Planned and Unplanned.
• In the case of an UNPLANNED water outage, the toilets will not be accessible once the water has gone off. This may be an inconvenience but it’s a health and safety issue. It may mean an early end to your class.
• Afternoon classes will be notified on arrival and asked to go home. • In the case of a PLANNED water outage we will notify classes if we have plenty of prior notice, which usually happens.
• The class may choose to meet elsewhere. As this is out of our control, the centre will not be open.

Book Clubs

Ever thought of joining a Book Club?
Apart from the companionship of others who love to read, it adds another dimension to your reading. Why did the others not enjoy it when you did? Why did the book win a prize, when you thought it was just OK? I am sure you often long to discuss books when you've read them.
The KCLC runs nine (9) Book Clubs. They meet either in the afternoon (Wednesday & Friday) or in the evenings (Tuesday and Wednesday). Meetings are for two (2) hours, and happen every three (3) weeks during term time. Some groups have coffee☕, some a glass of wine 🍷.

At Kalamunda Community Learning Centre we have a library for borrowing books and a Book Swap cabinet. The Book Swap is located opposite the Black room (Pottery and Art Room) and works on a bring one take one system.
Our Library is located in two places; the Library trolley, which is placed outside the doors to the Black Room. The trolley contains books on: Drawing, Painting, Pottery, Jewellery, and Sculpture as well as a few Reference books -not for Loan.
Our other Library is located opposite the Green Room/Reception. This cosy spot has books pertaining to the History of Art, Artists, Australian Art, Patchwork, Embroidery and Calligraphy.
To borrow a library book simply bring your selected book to reception. Inside the front cover of each library book is an index card to fill in your name, phone number, class you attend and the borrowing date.
These cards are filed and then returned to the book when you bring the book back to the Centre.

Display Cabinet...

The Pottery groups-Wednesday evening, Thursday AM & PM have contributed to the display cabinet. There is a diverse range of creative pieces on display to delight you.

Step right up! Mary, Keeper of Lost Property, invites you to the greatest show in town.
The water bottles have behaved themselves—some even went home. But the jackets? They’re breeding, by colour. Claim yours before they demand their own postcode.
And a tape measure, still unclaimed, joined the circus—swinging from hooks, coiling round chair legs, rehearsing for its big trapeze act. The jackets cheer it on from the audience.
Parents appear, whispering, “Lost a black jacket—blue jacket.” Mary waves at the mountain. “Take your pick.”
Among the performers lies a single beautiful earring—circular with colours that swirl and catch the light just so. It refuses to pair with any other, preferring to glimmer alone, waiting for its partner to find it. Even Mary pauses to admire it, though she suspects it might be too glamorous for this troupe.
No one dares ask about the tape measure.
So if you’ve misplaced a jumper, bottle, or wayward earring (it was discovered in the POTTERY room), visit the circus, in the office, before the performers move on.
