Centre Talk

31 August 2025

Dates for your diary
Friday 19 September - General Meeting
Sunday 21 September - Open Day
Friday 26 September - Last Day Term 3

Welcome...

Welcome to the last Centre Talk for what has been a cold winter. Hats, gloves, scarves and layers. This edition has a link to the draft AGM minutes and a reminder from the Coordinators that respect for all is important throughout the KCLC. There is information about new courses available for Term 4, highlights from the Centre Lunch, and Bridget is rallying members to help at Open Day. The Display cabinet has great samples of jewellery.

Centre Talk Submissions...

We are currently trialling a new deadline for submissions of articles to Centre Talk so that I can have the newsletter compiled and ready to send out to my proofreaders before they get busy on the weekend. Please, can you send any submissions for Centre Talk through to me (centre_talk@kclc.org.au) by the end of the day on a Wednesday preceding the Sunday that the newsletter is sent out (which is fortnightly usually on a Sunday).

Many thanks,

Marilyn, Editor

From the Coordinators...

“We kindly remind everyone that our classes are a shared space where respect and courtesy are essential.

Respect others by allowing everyone to listen, learn, and participate without distraction.

If an issue arises, please speak calmly and respectfully, or raise it with a coordinator privately.

We value the contribution of every member and ask for your cooperation in ensuring our classes remain enjoyable and respectful for everyone”.

Kind Regards

Annie, Anne-Marie and John

KCLC Coordinators

Our Time to Shine...

Otherwise known as Open Day

Our annual Open Day is fast approaching and I hope you have all been working hard finalising your displays. I know it is going to be a cracker of a day if the last 45 plus years have anything to go by.

Work that is showcased by the Centre on Open Day is nothing short of miraculous, be it the arts, crafts, written work or cooking. It is all wonderful to look at or taste and I know this years will be up there with the best.
To those people who have already signed up to help on Open Day, thank you and if you haven’t then you might consider helping on the day.

Now for some special requests:

Could all those able to, please help collect banana boxes from wherever you shop. They must be complete with lids. The Book Stall and the White Elephant Stall are always in desperate need of them. If they could be delivered to the Centre I would be very grateful.

Could anyone with light fold-up tables please loan them for the day. They can be delivered to the Centre the week before Open day (15th - 20th September) and picked up anytime after the event. Please have your name clearly marked on the underside of the table.

Please do not bring in books or White Elephant goods until the week starting Monday the 15th of September, just before Open Day, as we have virtually no storage. Moreover, we cannot have ‘stuff’ lying around.

So get cooking, inventing, collecting and otherwise preparing for the most amazing day of the year. For the Markets, remember that jams, preserves, baking (who can go past Teresa’s delicious Cannoli?) along with fresh fruit and vegetables are welcome. Remember, no private sales.

Bridget, Open Day Work Group Leader

Display Cabinet...

Jewellery is sparkling in the display cabinet at the moment. Rings, necklaces, bracelets. Pause for a moment and admire the craftsmanship.

In Memoriam...

Lyn Bevan

Lyn, who was an active member of KCLC, sadly passed away 5 July 2025. She happily gave her time to run the cryptic crosswords classes and arranged two groups - Beginners and Club. Lyn capably tutored both groups on alternative weeks for many years.

Many students benefited from her expertise with solving these crossword puzzles and she will be greatly missed. Condolences to all who knew her.
