Dates for your diary
Friday 21 March - Centre Liaison Group (10.30am)
Friday 21 March - Centre Lunch (11.45am)
Friday 28 March - General Meeting

Welcome...

Classes are now settling into their rhythms, new and old members are becoming cohesive units and autumn is in the air.

This Centre Talk includes information about the first Centre Lunch for 2025 - good food, friends and conversation, what more do you need? There is news from two Monday morning classes: 'Yoga' and 'Needles & Pins' (I would get pins & needles doing yoga with my knees 😂), an update on the display cabinet, an assortment of lost items looking for their home and Bronwyn answers the question 'Do I need to send an apology if I will be absent?'.

Editorial musings

One of Bertram Russell's quotes caught my eye but, as I was musing about this, the 'unseasonal' March rain became a downpour outside my door, with that distinctive smell of rain on hot earth at the end of summer, accompanied by thunder and lightning, which meant the dogs were huddled under my desk keeping my feet warm. However, this sent me off to the BoM to download evidence and answer the question. Was my perception of this seemingly unusual event based in reality or merely imagination? Truely it was my imagination!!

I consoled myself with the knowledge that human memories are a fallible, so prone to errors and distortion when we try to recall events. Our working memory causes these problems when integrating new information with our stored information.

From the Executive...

All classes will be involved.

The designated Assembly Area will be in the Western, or lower, carpark. Class Secretaries note to take along their class rolls to ensure that everyone in their class is accounted for and has safely exited from the building.

Class News...

Yoga class

Monday morning

We have a wonderful group of ladies both young and young at heart. Thanks to the Shire for the new flooring as it is getting lots of use in our Monday morning yoga class.

Our knowledgeable yogini (teacher) Susie always reminds us to work at our own pace, be gentle on ourselves and not force any part experiencing discomfort.

During practice we find time to giggle in four limb poses especially in up dog rather than down dog. In mountain pose, we face the verandah and observe the majestic flowering gums, swaying in the wind and the distant cackle of kookaburras. Oh! to be as flexible as a tree.

In shavasana, a supine pose, we relax and breathe deeply to help eliminate all tiredness and promote calmness to the mind.

We conclude with a beautiful heart centred meditation. Everyone leaves feeling at peace and so grateful for another wonderful session of yoga.

Needles and Pins class

Monday morning

This class embraces anyone undertaking handiwork requiring pins and needles. Members bring their own project and stitch in a supportive group environment. The wealth of experience in this group is shared with all-comers, and while there is no tutor per se, Rosemary is the facilitator.

The first example of their work is by Fiona Thompson. This is a quilt made using hand-stitched blocks; individual fabric squares or shapes are sewn together by hand, which are eventually put together creating a larger quilt. A wonderful example of that phrase, attributed to Aristotle, that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”.
The next example from this class is a baby blanket with appliquéd animals. Such creative work. How many animals can you identify?

Display Cabinet...

The Cabinet was being filled with silver jewellery as I passed by to take a photo (next issue now).

This is great news, and many thanks. The threat of ukulele playing on a loop is averted 😂.

FYI: Mary (Office Manager) is the holder of the cabinet roster. Any classes that would like to showcase their wares can go in, see Mary, and put their name down on the list.

Lost Property...

Feel like you’re missing something? Please check out the lost property items pictured and see if anything looks familiar.

If anything belongs to you, then please head to the friendly team at Reception to stake your claim.

Registrar's Rambles...

Hi!

In this regular segment, I hope to address some enrolment FAQs and offer enrolment advice...
Question: Do I need to send an apology if I will be absent?

We appreciate full-time class members advising us that they will be absent as a matter of courtesy to the tutor. Attendances are checked within the first two weeks and regularly throughout the semester. If a member has not attended for two weeks without an apology, they might be contacted to ensure they will be continuing in the class. This is particularly important for courses that are full and have an active waitlist. By sending an apology you will save you and us time and effort.

Members can phone in their apology on 9293 2977 or send a message via email at reception1@kclc.org.au.

Class secretaries and tutors, if a member advises you personally that they will not be attending, please record this on the class roll. Thank you.
