From the Executive...
First Aid Training
We are delighted to offer approximately 12 to 15 Kalamunda Community Learning Centre members the opportunity to become first aid trained. This will help us provide up to date care for fellow members should an incident occur during our classes.
Those interested in completing the course will be required to do approximately five hours online training prior to an eight hour session onsite at St John WA State Office in Belmont (you will also be required to kneel for about two minutes). The training can be done on a day that suits you and ideally before the end of January 2025.
We will require you to pay for the course yourself and then KCLC will reimburse you upon presentation of your receipt once you have completed your training.
If you are interested, please register at Reception and provide a telephone number and email address or alternatively send an email to kclc@kclc.org.au, (attn: Annie). Once registered, Annie will then send you the course details.

Registrar's Rambles...
Hi! In this regular segment, I hope to address some enrolment FAQs and offer enrolment advice. This question relates to Casual Enrolments...
Question: Why do I have to enrol even though I am only attending on a casual basis?
The Centre’s policy is all members attending a course must be enrolled irrespective of whether they attend in a full-time or casual capacity (this is not a new rule, it has been in place for many years!). Why: 1. There are restrictions on class sizes based on:
- The official capacity for each room as directed by the City of Kalamunda.
The practical limitations on how many members can comfortably fit into specific rooms depending on the nature of the course and the number of tables available.
- The maximum number of class members tutors feel they can effectively cater for.
- Balancing these numbers would be impossible if we allowed members to just attend without enrolling.
2. Only enrolled members are covered by our insurance.
Enrolments for Term 4...
Some of our continuing courses have vacancies and we are offering members the opportunity to join these in Term 4 with a 50% discount on the course costs.
Enrolments for these courses will only be available in-person via the Reception Desk from Monday 7 October until Friday 18 October.

Open Day...
The sun shone, the exhibitions looked fabulous, the market was packed, the food was delicious and the Tai Chi demonstration and UkeARoos performance were fantastic.
Rosemary had the kitchen team working like clockwork and the soups and tasty bites that were delivered to the kitchen were soon consumed with some people choosing to enjoy their food outside in the sunshine.
Bill told me when I took over the role from him that on the day I would have nothing to do, and he was right! I wandered around looking at the amazing work that was on display and the goods that were on sale in the market.
I loved that the White Elephant stall was reinstated but may have to find a more obvious place for it as it was a little hidden from the general area.
If I had to make a complaint about the day it was that the car park was too small but the very capable parking volunteers were able to manage the problem.
I wish everyone could have seen the clearing up at the end of the day as it was nothing short of miraculous. The team managed to reduce the Centre from a bustling Open Day to a Community Centre in about half an hour making the place ready for classes the next day.
The left-over food, books and White Elephant were duly delivered to the Forrestfield charity shop and the donation was gratefully received.
Overall the day was a great success and my heartfelt thanks goes to all of you who helped make it so.

Term 4 Dates for Your Diary...
Saturday 12 October, the first week of Term 4, will be the anniversary of the founding of Kalamunda Community Learning Centre.
Started in 1977 by four young mothers, their aim was to provide a place where women (initially) could learn things like languages, history and literature, as well as art and other skills such as pottery, embroidery and patchwork, while their young children were cared for.
In the first weeks there were one-off classes and lectures. At the start of 1978 a formal programme was launched, and the 'rest is history'.
To remember this remarkable achievement and to celebrate our '47th Birthday' we would love members to get together for a special ‘Birthday’ Lunch, on Friday 11 October.
Centre Lunch...
Lock the date in your diaries now for the special 'Birthday' Centre Lunch on Friday 11 October from 11.45am in the Main Hall at Kalamunda Community Centre and help us celebrate 47 Glorious Years! All Kalamunda Community Learning Centre members are invited. No booking is required. Please just come along with a plate of food to share and enjoy catching up with other members over lunch.
Centre Presents Talk...
Join Joel Young from PDC Health Hub on Friday 25 October as he shares what allied health professionals do and how they may benefit you now and in the future. Look out for more information in Centre Talk and on the Noticeboard next Term.
General Meeting...
All Kalamunda Community Learning Centre members are invited to the next General Meeting to be held at 12 noon on Friday 1 November in the Kalamunda Community Centre Main Hall. The meeting Agenda will be made available closer to the time.

Display Cabinet...
Thank you to the Projects in Progress Team for the wonderful last display in the cabinet for this Term.
Projects in Progress is a great course to sign up for if you have outstanding projects that you need to complete, for example, embroidery, sewing, or crafts.
It's a great way to get motivated (or inspired) and finish your projects in the company of friends!
